A Vibrant Ƶ Community

Community is important at St. Scholastica. In fact, it’s one of our guiding values! Community looks different for every student, though. For example, our online students build community by meeting with classmates outside of class and some even participate in elective trips.

Photo of students laughing and studying togetherGraduate and Doctoral students often have cohorts that offer them support in their studies, as well as closer working relationships with their instructors. Our on-campus undergrad students tend to get involved more in student organizations and athletics. Despite the differences in their experiences, every student has the opportunity to find support and community at St. Scholastica.

You Are Welcome Here!

Grounded in our rich Catholic Benedictine heritage, our mission is to support student persistence to graduation and prepare graduates for responsible living and meaningful work. Guided by our values, our goal is to foster an inclusive and mutually respectful environment for our community and create transformational learning opportunities which advance holistic growth, intercultural competence and an understanding of responsibility to the community.

The Duluth Main Campus Undergraduate Experience

Our Student Affairs team plays a critical role in your learning experience at St. Scholastica. We will guide and support you outside of the classroom to ensure you thrive. We’re committed to enrich and deepen your lifetime journey of growth and self-exploration.

Develop your personal, vocational and social development through diverse clubs, organizations, leadership opportunities and co-curricular activities. Get connected and identify others who share similar interests or step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Each year, St. Scholastica hosts over 400 on-campus events and every day our students are making memories that will last a lifetime. All of the activities that we have available for students will help you to build relationships, learn new things and enjoy being a part of our vibrant community.

Need a break from studying? Participate in an activity, hang out with friends or meet at The Port for fun and snacks — we have something for everyone!

Prepare yourself to serve the communities in which you live and make a lasting difference in the lives of others. Develop and grow your skills through our Saints Leadership program, which focuses on four areas: individual or internal, relationship or interpersonal, community and societal or systemic change. Each is grounded in one of the different areas of leadership, based on the socio-ecological model for change.

If a student successfully completes all the tracks by April 15, prior to their graduation, they will be able to graduate with Saints Leadership Honors.

On Campus at St. Cloud

The St. Cloud campus is full of students interested in becoming nurses. Because nursing is the sole focus of this campus, every student starts out having something in common, which makes it easier to find people to study with in the student lounge.

Ultimately, you will be able to make friendships that last long after graduation. Each relationship that you make here also has the potential to become an asset in your future as friends can easily become colleagues as you pursue careers together in the healthcare field.

The Online Experience

Online students lead busy lives, often fitting in their online coursework between work and even families. Because of this, online students participate in a community that is more virtual than in person, but a community that is still vibrant and integral to their education.

Most online courses utilize group work and zoom discussion, which allows students to get acquainted naturally with each other and their instructors. Students who live locally will often meet up in person to work together or just for social activities. The online courses provide so many ways to interact and learn together. There are even opportunities for elective trips!  As a remote learner, you will never be without a community to support your progress.

Graduate and Doctoral Programs

Depending on your program, you may study on the Duluth Main Campus, at the St. Cloud campus, at the Health Science Center (HSC) in Duluth or online, and your experience will differ depending on your program or location.

But, every graduate and doctoral student will work closely with dedicated and skilled instructors. And you will learn next to students who share your drive and passion for your specialty. In cohorts or classrooms, you will find students who will work and study with you. Your learning community will help you thrive in your program.
